This unusual and serene portrait of Annie Oakley was made in about 1900. Note the pin at her neck with the picture of her two wards, Gladys and Della Baker.

Annie Oakley and her husband Frank grew close to Gladys and Della, the two daughters of Buffalo Bill’s protégé, Johnny Baker, especially after the girls’ mother died. Frank was godfather to Gladys. Note the pin at Annie’s throat with the girls’ portrait. This picture is signed and dated on the back by Annie, “Annie Oakley and her two Wards. Gladys and Della. Boston, 15./6./1900.”
