Japanese women & girls in Western dress with various hairstyles by Chikanobu, 1887
From the Sokuhatsu Bijin Kurabe series (A Comparison of Beautiful Women in Western Hairstyles). Published by Tsunashima Kamekichi. This triptych has the title on each sheet, but the signature is only on the right sheet and the publisher is only on the left sheet. The elaborate hairdos in the upper panel are named and described in the title cartouches – such as the forked knot, the circle roll, and the English knot.
