Mary Ann Wells, 1850s

Daguerreotype of Mary Ann Wells, ca. early 1850s

I find this such an adorable portrait of a freckled teenage girl. Her dress is very stylish with interesting details. The front closure bodice is very rare with the button trim and lacing in front. And the beautiful trim on the sleeves and sleeves caps in a double zig zag pattern (I don’t know the correct term) that echoes the shape of the laced around the buttons. Very intricate and elegant! The lace collar gives the girl a dainty touch. There is another portrait of a girl in a similar bodice, although not as stylish as this one. You can see her in my other post here.
