Annie Oakley by Baker’s Art Gallery (Columbus, Ohio), ca. 1899

Annie’s fame grew exponentially after her brilliant and highly-publicized appearances with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West in England and Europe. By 1893, Annie Oakley souvenirs were so in demand that the cards were imprinted with her signature. This portrait of a forthright Annie was probably taken in the spring of 1899. Annie was almost thirty-nine years old.
