Daguerreotype of Bertha Beckmann  by Eduard Wehnert (1811-1847), 1843

Her collaborations with Wilhelm Horn in Prague may place her as the first professional woman photographer in the world. In 1845 she married the Leipzig photographer Eduard Wehnert but he died only two years later. From 1849 to 1851 she was in New York with studios at 62 White Street and later at 385 Broadway. She then returned to her previous studio at Burgstrasse 8 in Leipzig.
