Daguerreotype of Baby with Hiding Mother by Unknown Arist, ca. 1855
This is a most peculiar photo. Note the mother’s knitted undersleeves! I have never seen knitted undersleeves before. It must have been a cold winter? But then again, the baby is without socks. Or was that only for the photo? Somehow I think this photo is later than 1855, rather around 1860s, during Civil War era.
