    Ambrotipo ¼ di lastra colorato a mano. Area di provenienza: Bath, Somerset, UK. Le ambrotipie di qualità ed in buono stato di conservazione sono meno comuni delle dagherrotipie. La fragilità del supporto e la delicatezza dello strato emulsione rendono questi oggetti poco resistenti agli insulti del tempo. Questo esemplare ha un astuccio completo, ma la cerniera si è ormai disfatta.

In effetti tutte le fotografie di ritratto a positivo diretto non sono altro che specchi che catturano e cristallizzano per sempre l’immagine della persona che ha posato davanti all’obiettivo. Così, sguardi antichi attraversano il tempo e ci guardano dalle profondità degli anni. Ambrotipo da 1/6 di lastra di provenienza inglese, anno 1860 circa.
