” Muntean/Rosenblum, the artist duo of Markus Muntean and Adi Rosenblum, transform images of youth from magazines, the internet, and social media into dreamlike group portraits reminiscent of Renaissance paintings. Though large-scale painting is a primary aspect of their artistic practice, the pair works across a variety of media, from drawings and collages to film and installation, incorporating elements of both art history and contemporary pop culture. Muntean/Rosenblum has risen to prominence since the collaborative partnership began in 1992; the duo has exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków, alongside other contemporary institutions. Through depictions of disenchanted adolescents, both artists push the boundaries on the way a figure is constructed while simultaneously raising questions surrounding identity and the notion of self. Muntean/Rosenblum often includes an unrelated caption or line of text at the base of its canvases, furthering the enigmatic feeling that its work evokes.”
