Two sisters in identical dresses, 1840s

When John Plumbe was assigned a patent for coloring daguerreotypes, he quickly designed an oval brass mat pressed with an acorn and oak leaf theme. At the bottom he embossed Plumbe’s Patent Oct. 22, 1842.
