Mr. & Mrs. Thistle by William James Topley, February 1876
Mr. and Mrs. Thistle were dressed as nobles from the time of Louis XVI for a fancy dress ball hosted by Lord and Lady Dufferin on February 23, 1876. A description of Mrs. Thistle’s costume appeared in the Toronto Globe on February 24, 1876: “Her dress was of a robe of pink silk, laced with black velvet, looped with pearls and corsage of lace.“
