sixth-plate Daguerreotype of Elegant Lady, pre-1843
Standing woman with face in half profile, hair parted in the center, smoothed over the head and covering the ears with ringlets, wearing a shoulder-baring, short-sleeved dark dress, with a long, stiffly boned corset-fitted bodice, lace around the upper arms and a white rose pinned at the décolletage, color applied to her bare skin. Preserver: [none] (pre-1843). Mat: Octagonal with pebble finish (1839-mid 40s). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame embossed with a floral pattern both front and back, with a red velvet pinchpad, and a rose red silk cushion (1839-50).
