Amalia Cappelletti was born in Trieste in 1808. She was the daughter of Giovanni and Antonia Paulini. Her brother Giambattista (1808-1872) was one of the most renowned surgeons of Trieste. In 1855 he operated the Archduke Massimilian of Habsburg. In 1828 Amalia married the widower Gaspare Tonello with whom she had four children.
